Various sensor mechanisms can be added on top of the Microarray devices to suit different analytes. Addition of further chemical layers or enzyme dopped inks is acheivable.

A further alternative is shown opposite. This shows enzyme entrapped conductive polymers that have been grown onto the microelectrodes, so forming a biosensor device.
